Spanish For Children

The Values and Benefits of Learning a Second Language

There is always a debate surrounding the question of whether kids should be taught Spanish as a second language or not. There is the need to fully qualify our child for the world and yet, we hesitate in helping children reach their full potential. Studies have proven time and time again that the part of the brain responsible for learning language is most responsive at the age of 3-6. If we teach children to be bilingual we give the child a greater opportunity to expand his or her potential. Our country is a nation of immigrants and Spanish is a language spoken by a large sector of the population. When people argue against it being taught as a second language they are doing a disservice to themselves, their children and the nation.

If there is no disadvantage to learning the language what could be the possible objection? Sure, parents would be willing to say why isn’t their cultural language taught? Well, the language can be taught-at home. At the moment Spanish and English are the second most spoken languages in the world with Spanish leading the way at 332 million people around the world! Chinese is number one but that is simply due to the sheer population of China alone!

Americans have always been pioneers in their ways and allowing a second language to be taught will help them maintain that role in society. At the moment in terms of economics China and India are the biggest threats to the US. China and India remained closed economies for decades, now; they realize the need to open their borders. Each of the two countries is allowing its citizens to learn English in order to deal with the language challenges offered in the 21st century. The two nations have always cherished their cultures and proudly present them, yet, they know to be a part of the world economy they need to learn English and become bilingual so they do, without making it a conflict of cultures. If they begin to learn Spanish as well, they will simply outpace the US in every way.

There is more chance your child will need to use the Spanish and English language than any other language so doesn’t it make sense to equip your child to deal better in the world? Today, learning Spanish is so much easier. From real life experience to software’s and language programs and games all the latest products strive to help you and your children learn the Spanish language. We are living in a global world where borders mean nothing. People travel more and children are exposed to more cultures than they were ten years ago. Becoming bilingual helps your child be more open to the changing society. The child learns to look beyond the normal and appreciate the differences between people rather than fear them. The educational institutes aim to provide students with practical life information which can be applied in their everyday lives and while English is and will remain the national language, learning a second language at a national level should not be considered a threat.
